United Television (UTV Ghana) is a commercial television station that broadcasts news and entertainment programs. The headquarters is located in Accra.
United Television Ghana Limited (UTV Ghana) is a private, free-to-air television broadcaster in Ghana. It was launched in 2013 by The Despite Group of Companies, headed by Dr. Osei Kwame Despite. UTV Ghana airs and produces a variety of television programmes including news bulletins, dramas and successful telenovelas, films and other entertainment.

UTV Ghana is perceived by Ghanaians as a local television station in the country largely due to their keen interest to satisfy the local Ghanaian market. It therefore broadcasts mainly in local languages.
UTV has the highest audience share (16.4% ) among all TV channels in the country, according to Geopoll, a mobile survey platform (January – March 2017). UTV has an audience penetration reach of 76% nationwide. During the week of the 2016 election (2nd – 8th December 2016), it was the most watched Ghanaian TV station. The highest peak point was 20:00hrs when the station had 1.2 Mio viewers.
Besides political news, UTV Ghana airs and produces mainly entertainment programmes including dramas, telenovelas, blockbuster movies and other entertainment shows. In the run-up to the December polls in Ghana, a survey conducted by Goodman AMC (a research consulting firm), shows that UTV News was the fifth most trusted source of information by respondents during the period.
The station operates under the company name United Television Ghana Limited which belongs to U2 Company Limited. It is jointly owned by Ernest Ofori Sarpong and Osei Kwame. The latter is also into other business operations such as real estate development, salt mining, stone quarry, fertilizer production, food processing and cable and wire manufacturing. He also owns – among various other businesses – the big media network “Despite Group of Companies” (Peace FM, Hello FM, Neat FM, Okay FM and Peacefmonline.com).
UTV was so far the latest channel to be birthed by a union between Osei Kwame and his fellow business colleague.
